Urban Homesteading Fair Sponsored by What If? Publishing
Updated: Apr 5, 2020
What If? Publishing was proud to partner with the Loveland Public Library and our author Sarah Sailer to bring you the Urban Homesteading Fair.
Our neighbors wanted to learn more about urban homesteading and what better way to learn than from your neighbors who are doing it!
We took over the center of the library and filled it with chickens, ducks, rabbits and worms! There was also an area where kids could color an urban homesteading coloring page to help them learn too.
We had 12 tables that included a variety of experts from the neighborhood who were there to help visitors learn about gardening, chickens, ducks, rabbits, composting, permaculture, fermenting, preserving food and more.
Sarah Sailer gave a talk about her adventures in urban homesteading and then all the presenters talked about their journeys and what brought them to be doing what they do. Pretty much the consensus was a passion for growing your own food and connecting with the process from garden to table.
We’d like to thank our presenters for coming and sharing their knowledge: Anne Dirkse: Seed Starting Sarah Sailer: Organic & Community Gardening • Author of A Thrifty Good Life Patrick Padden: Soil maintenance • Composting • Permaculture Lynn Peterson: Chickens – coops, feed options Brynn Manzella: Rabbits Connie Meyer: Beekeeping Robin Shukle: Vermiculture Lynnet Banning: Loveland Local Food Co-op – (Sourcing the Local Food you Aren’t Growing)Jonathan Sweeney: Upcycling / Repurposing (Highlighting the Loveland Recycle Yard) Melissa Davis: Chickens • Rabbits • Soil • Gardening • Food Preserving • Herbs for You & Your Critters • Companion Planting Amy Mihaly: Foods & Your Health • Fermenting Lisa Bounds: Making your own health / beauty / cleaning products
Much discussion was had from visitors as well as our presenters as where to go from here with helping our neighbors get started. We’ll be figuring out what that will be, so check back!
The Reporter Herald also covered the event.
